Serving Through Change: The Impact of Chaplaincy Transitions in Soccer

Dear friends,
As we move through the heart of summer, I want to take a moment to reflect on a theme that’s woven through much of our recent work: change. In the world of soccer chaplaincy, transitions are a natural part of our ministry. Whether it’s a chaplain stepping down, a new leader stepping up, or a community project finding new direction, each change brings both challenges and
opportunities for growth.
Why Chaplaincy Transitions Matter
Recently, we’ve seen faithful servants like Jubal McDaniel and Josh Bailey conclude their chaplaincy roles after years of heartfelt service (read Jubal’s story and Josh’s reflections). These transitions remind us that chaplaincy is not just about the individual, but about the ongoing care for teams, families, and communities. When a chaplain moves on, it’s not an end—it’s a moment to celebrate the seeds planted and to pray for the next chapter.
Our mission remains the same: to provide spiritual care, wise counsel, and meaningful service to everyone in the soccer world. Even as Soccer Chaplains United faces change, the heartbeat of our ministry continues. We are committed to walking alongside athletes, coaches, and staff—helping them navigate not just the highs and lows of competition, but the transitions of life itself — even as we face our own moments
of change.
Supporting Communities Through Change
Change can bring uncertainty, but it also brings fresh vision. That’s why we invest in training new chaplains and equipping those who step into these important roles. We’re always looking for people who feel called to serve—if you sense that tug, learn more about
chaplaincy with us. Your support, whether through prayer or financial gifts, enables us to continue this vital work.
One of the ways we serve is by resourcing communities near and far with needed soccer gear. Our Community Projects continue to support teams and villages—from West Virginia to Kenya—reminding us that every act of service, big or small, makes a difference. You can read the latest about our
efforts in Kenya and the needs of the Gitombo village and school in our recent story: Hope Going to Gitombo.
Global Congress Update
This summer, I am honored to present at the 4th Global Congress on Sport and Christianity (GCSC) at Baylor University’s Truett
Seminary in Waco, Texas. My talk focuses on translating the scriptures for the world of sport—an important part of our work as chaplains. It’s a privilege to share insights and learn alongside others who are passionate about integrating faith and sport. You can get a glimpse of the schedule and more details in our recent
update.
New Covers for the Soccer Psalms Books
I’m also excited to share that the Soccer Psalms books have brand new covers! These books, which connect the language of the biblical psalms with the world of soccer, are a resource for spiritual encouragement and reflection. They’re available in paperback, hardback, and eBook formats on Amazon. If you’re interested in a copy for yourself or your team, find Soccer Psalms on Amazon. Your purchase supports this ongoing ministry and helps us reach more people in the soccer community.
